Been trying to keep my line vertical while jigging without success the last three trips out with my stern mounted motor. Closed bow so a bow mount is not possible. Needless to say, no fish even though people around me were catching them.
I am considering changing tacktics with going to crawler harnesses. I'm am assuming that vertical lines are not as important with this. I would love to see a picture of what this rig looks like. I have an idea, but want to do it right the first time and not start over learning again without any fish. Not looking for limits, but would love to bring something home to clean.
Thanks for your help and advice with this river fishing thing. Can knock them dead in the lakes but am a true rookie in the river!

If you're going to drift/troll crawler harnesses i would use bottom bouncers(click link above) in the river use 2 or 3 oz. depending depth and current. Keep your line at a 45 degree angle, if you can't feel the bottom you're not using enough weight. I love to fish this way, might be a little soon yet but getting real close. Good luck:cool:

LINK I POSTED NOT WORKING, GO TO IT AND TYPE BOTTOM BOUNCER IN THE SEARCH BOX!

been very productive for me once the water warms up a bit. never tried it this early. troll with the current, so you are moving at a speed slightly faster than the current. 3 oz bottom bouncers are what i always use in the river.

I have the same problem crawler harnesses is the answer but I did come up with a quick fix. Flip the jig not cast it about 5 ft up river and you will be vertical for about 1 minute until it goes 45 degrees, then reel up and do the same.

Berkley GULP on a floating harness off a 2-3 oz. bottom bouncer. Keep the leader short (2-3 ft) so it stays near the bottom. The bouncer will slide over most of the rocks and the hooks will be up a little so they don't get snagged. Got to keep it down and wet to catch them eye's.

I dont start Harnessing till end of May beginning of June, but with the early warm spring it should start happening soon. As far as catching gobies, use a kicker and montitor your speed accordingly. I troll down stream, at about 1.5 to 2.5 mph. This keeps the gobies off, havent caught one in a long time. Bottom bouncers are key, and i run 36 to 48" leaders on my Harnesses.

P.S. Buy heavy bottom bouncers, 2 to 4 oz. depending on the depth, must always be able to feel the bottom, with the least amount of line out to feel the hits.....
