That on a river that is open ALL year like the MO, there is a influx of "fisherman" on the opener of a trout season that never closed?

The only reason I can think of is tradition. Seems silly to hit the river like you said but that's the only reason I can think of.

I would have to agree with GUNROD.... I was up at the Mainstee last weekend 72 to CCC flies only open all year area.....and I counted maybe 6-7 other anglers....I can only imagine what it is like this weekend... :dizzy:

Good Day,
Tradition and ignorance. You would really be surprised how many folks simply just don't know. That is O.K., more fish for us "in the know".
FYI, did you know that the DNR estimates opening day of trout is second only to the dear opener in terms of participants...?

Could it be because brown trout are now legal to keep? That's why I would trout fish now as opposed to before the opener on the "blue" streams.

I really like running into the guys on the pier. "Just had to get out and catch some trout now that the season is open."

I think you'll find some of it has to do with gas prices too. Running to Newaygo is a little cheaper than Baldwin, Wellston or Traverse City if you are going NW.
