Wondering if anybody will be Pike fishing this weeked?
Trout,walleye and pike open.
I would normally be trout fishing and that was my plan until yesterday...we've been waiting for daughters softball schedule for a week and it turns out she has a game at 9 am tomorrow and my wife has a Girl Scout event at 3 pm...that really screws me for trout fishing anywhere tomorrow:( ,don't care for livery tasting trout from Proud Lake:sick: ,so I'm thinking of heading down to my neighborhood lake with an 8 wt on Sunday and pike fishing:idea:
Anybody else trying 'em?

PIKE taste better than walleye. :tsk:
YaKnow... I've often heard that - but I think it generally comes from people who have had oral surgery and the taste buds didn't heal right....

Or for those that prefer a tastier meal and a better fighting fish.
I bet its easier to catch a Master Angler walleye than a MA pike. It's not too hard to cast a HJ14 off a pier head after dark and tie into a big walleye - even I can do that.
Big pike are hard to come by (for me anyway). They behave like an entirely different species than a hammer handle.

I rarely keep a pike ,but do like to eat both pike and walleye.
I've found it easier to locate pike this time of year, while walleye's are fairly easy to catch(for me anyway) most any time.
I hoping to get my first pike on a fly this weekend. I could use minnows for a more sure chance, but have hooked into too many bass with eggs trying that method in early spring, they always swallow it.
If I can get one pike on the fly I'll consider this a good weekend:chillin:

I am going pike fishing this weekend for sure. Nothin better than seeing a big ol pike hit your lure at the tip of your pole! I think this will be a good year of pike fishin for me! ;)

That what I'll be doing this weekend! I would rather fish for northerns over walleye's anyday. Love chunking those big spinnerbaits and magnum Raps. Got a new ABu Garcia Record to try out.

Gonna go Bass fishing Saturday morning, then around 4 PM I am gonna head out to Long Lake to try for some Pike. Then it will back out for Bass on Sunday morning. Never caught a Walleye. Would love to, but have never tried and never been taught. I wouldn't know where to begin.

Might go pike/bass fishing sunday. I'll be throwing a storm thunderstick. The body of the bait feels like sandpaper from all the teeth of pike i caught on it last year. I had to replace 2 out of the 3 trebles in the first couple days using it.

I've caught more pike on lures than live bait.I used to use minnows, then started catching more with lures.Probably because I can cover more area casting than drifting.
I mostly catch and release, but got to agree that pike is just as good as walleye to eat, just more bones, and different meat.

Pike are for people that like sliiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiimy critters!!!
They ain't "critters"; they are slimey snakes. Gawd, are they slimey.
Worked my butt off all week cutting lawns and doing landscaping just so I could take Friday and Saturday off to make it up to the cabin for opening day. Friday was spent on the river filling a bucket with Suckers.
Saturday morning I went to Big Blue Lake (no size limit) for pike and picked up 4 on large shiners. Smallest was 18 inches and the largest 24". I cast several different spoons with the other rod and had a few hits and one on long enough to get it to about 12 feet from the boat. Oh, well, but it was a nice way to spend 3 and 1/2 hours.
It was the first time on the lake when it was not froze over so I did spend a bit of time just looking the lake over.
Went back this morning (Sunday) and one hit on a shiner but all it did was tear the big minnow up. 8 of the slimey snakes did take the bait, er lure, and I boated 3 of them. Bit of fun wathching 2 of them take turns hitting the spoon while I was jigging it next to the boat.
