Project FISH is a statewide educational program targeting youth and families sponsored locally by schools, fishing conservation organizations and benefactors interested in fishing and outdoor activities. Coordinated by Michigan State University’s Department of Fisheries and Wildlife, this Project FISH event is a partnership with the Bolles Harbor Mathematics and Science Center, Monroe Public Schools, Monroe County 4H Youth Development, The Future Fisherman Foundation, M.U.C.C., the Department of Natural Resources Fisheries Division, local businesses and service organizations. The goal is for young people, families, mentors and educators to develop skills together so they can explore Michigan’s abundant natural resources through FISHING and pass it on to others by working Individually or as a team within their region.
This workshop offers activities in Aquatic Ecology, Tackle Crafting, the Citizen’s Role in Fish Management as well as training in actual Angling Skills. Participants leave with curriculum guides, tackle, equipment, even a fishing rod & reel. Each will have direct access to low cost supplies and resources so they can train others or even start a successful fishing program/club in their community.
