View Full Version : best walleye tactics for the opener?

Hey guys i need some help form the real walleye experts im very exicted for the big opener comeing up saturday and i need some help. im going to be fishing on my lake witch is gun lake and the only thing i havent caught out of my lake is a walleye soo im going to try to make the opener a speshal one what would be my choice for hooking into an eye...crawler harnis??? or some thing else ...gun is pretty clear water what would be my best choice in colors? and any outher info would be greatly appreshated!!!!!:)

Hey, not too familiar with inland lakes but a good place to start might just be a "Fishing Hotspots" map and maybe the local baitshop. I'd say start near a river mouth or known spawning area. North part of a lake seems to warm earliest too. Good luck.

Not really sure what I will use but have seen success early in the year with blade baits and hopkins spoon. Maybe a jig. Bit cooler this week leading up to the weekend.

Check the points off of a creek or river mouth. This time of year you'll problaby have better luck either pitching a jig tipped with a minnow or working a 3 way rig or lindy rig during the day.

Try casting a #11 or bigger Rapala into the shallows before daybreak or right at and after sunset .

I always had good luck on inland lakes this time of year with monnows. If its windy enough i would drift if not then slip bobber. Try to find weeds if you can and like the others have said river or creek mouth area are great spots too.
