2006 Salmon Stakes less than one week away.

Last year, your odds of winning the ~$10,000 Alaska trip were about 1:700. If you do not win one of the 5 raffle prizes, you can redeam your losing ticket at the Voyager for 1/2 of a 2nd meal. So, if you redeem your ticket, you basically get a free chance at the Alaska trip.

Proceeds from the event are going toward the construction of a fish cleaning station in St. Clair. We believe Ludington has allowed us to use their blueprints for their fish cleaning station that is in their city marina.

This event is also a great way for you to fish for your fishing club as well. All are welcome as long as it is a legitament organization. Examples of clubs that have fished in the past: BWSA, Detroit Area Steelheaders, Michigan Steelheaders Flint Branch, MSSC, Michigan Steelheaders Manistee Branch.

Hope to see you all there.

We will be there more then likely. Is there a eastern boundary for the tourny?

Nope, just make sure everyone on board has a raffle ticket and that you follow the regulations of the waters you are fishing. Also, if you plan on fishing anywhere south of Lexington you should look into buying Sarnia derby tickets also. They are paying $5000 for big king and fish can be weighed for both events.

Jeff - You can fish anywheres on Lower Lake Huron. Just make it back to the voyager by 3pm.

We are going up to the 45th parallel.

Here is a pic of the Salmon Stakes Press Day that was held on April 14th.

Has anyone ever considered having a second weigh station in Lexinton or Sanilac. Honestly, I decided last minute to go to Lexinton for the weekend, but If I have to drive to the Voyager to get tickets, then back down there to weigh in, for a possible $500, its not worth it to me, plus, my saturday of fishing is pretty much shot by the time I get back. Maybe others dont mind. Just an observation. I understand its not about the money(prizes), but its a huge hassle to have to cruise all that way.

FYI you can buy your tickets at Anderson's Pro Bait in PH on your way to Lex or order by phone with credit card @ 810-329-4101.

Also, the weigh in location is at the Voyageur because they stepped up to host the event after Landry Restaurants (now owners of the River Crab) decided they were no longer interested in doing so.

I think you'll find going down there for the weigh in and some drinks/food is a great time. Especially with the weather we're supposed to have. Not to mention the raffle ticket is worth the $10 even if you're not fishing or wighing in. Check out the grand prize at the above link ;)

Congradulations Fletch and Mrymar.

See Mike, if Jim had told you we were catching all those coho, you'd be out $500 bucks.

Hey Mikey,

Can I still fish Grand Haven with you? I have been banned from my own boat for losing a money fish (coho) in the final minutes of the showdown! Oh, one more thing, I never lie-just ask Rob! He will probably tell you about the full moon he seen in broad day-light during the pre-fish masacre.:yikes:

Nice job Fletch and Mike. Congrats to you guys!

I think I screwed up. I weighed our coho when I got home and it tipped the scales at 3.6#'s after it sat in the cooler all day.....

Dang.

Oh, well, live and learn I guess......

Thanks guys. We ended up with 4 kings, a coho, a pink and 8 or 9 mud chickens. The good news is just about every trout was coughing up smelt on the back deck prior to release. The kings looked a bit skinny, but checked in at 9, 8, 7 and 6 lbs respectively.

The fishing was remarkably similar to the first week of May (Sarnia tourney) in 2005. Looks like things are a bit ahead due to the warmer than normal water temps.
