A friend of ours is really into big-game hunting and traveling abroad to hunt (ie Africa, Canada, US-West). He told us about the Safari Club Convention this year in Vegas. We'll be going (more as an excuse to go to Vegas). I was just wondering if anyone has been to this convention and is it worth the $125/person admission fee...what can we expect??
Regardless of whether we go to the show, we're still heading to Vegas...:)

I used to work for a past president of Safari Club. I didn't go to Vegas but have heard the stories.
Expect to see Ridiculous money! This is a high society event (If its their Big yearly national event) $125 sounds cheap though so maybe not. If it is the "big" show expect to see money thrown around like its nothin with plenty of recognizable names and faces in the hunting community. I have heard they are a good time but don't expect to win a bid on anything unless ofcourse you can play with the big boys. Or if you get lucky at the black jack table! You should be in for a good time though, I know I would go if I had the chance.

It will be like going to a giant Outdoorama. Lots and lots of outfitters from all over the world. There will be demonstrations, hunting equipment, food, raffles and yes, the hunt auctions.
There are many local events like that. As mentioned before there are several local chapters in Michigan. My Chapter, SCI Flint, is having its fund raiser/auction on April 5th and 6th. It is open to the public. There will be dozens of outfitters, auctions and raffles both days.
You'll have a great time in Lost Wages though. Normally this annual show is in Reno.
I have been several times.......I recommend going at least once. The dinners and exhibits are simply amazing.
