Just got an electronice caller(Johnny Walker), now what is the best calling sequence?
Normally will be hunitng evenings, pick a spot and sit for the last 45 minutes of light. Do I start with a rabbit distress or try a lone howler and then to the rabbit?
How long do you normally let the rabbit distress play for? How many minutes between calling?
I know there are all sorts of different scenerios but I'm looking for general info. on how to start. Any and all info. appreciated. Thanks.

I have the same setup and I plug in the cottontail tape and let it play till it quits, nonstop. I have heard everyone's favorite way, 5 minutes on, 5 off, etc... but this works best for me.

Dogshooter,
Thats interesting. After the tape has ended, do you than move to another location or stay put and try again? What should be the max time to stay in one spot? What volume is best when calling?
From what I've been told wind is very imprtant in your setup, my question is: do yotes always try to get down wind? And what is a good setup when huntng with another hunter meaning distance away, flanked to one side, etc...
Intersting to hear others sequence of calling and set-ups.
Thanks

It has been my experience that if you call for 15-30 minutes and coyotes don't show up, they either were there and you didn't see them or they aren't commin'.
Most will be there, agressive ones, within 10 minutes or so.
By the way, it's VERY COOL when they do!

I use the Locator tape first, Unless I know the dogs are in the area ie tracks fresh kill or I located them the day before.
Good luck

I start each call location at the beginning of the tape. I have a squeeker with me. When the tape ends, I wait five to ten minutes, depending on how comfortable I am, and then move. If one comes in after the tape stops, I squeek him into range. I seldom have anything come in after the tape ends but it does happen. I just moved here from Wyoming and have spotted coyotes coming on a dead run for my call from over a mile away. If they hear it (and if they haven't been called and missed), they will come in, usually very fast.
I use full volume. Even as loud as it goes, it still ain't louder than a rabbit.

I have to agree with Dogshooter,He hunts alot like i do. I hunt here in PA. lots of woods and farm fields. So to answer your question on down wind ,yes they do come in 95% of the time. so when i take a buddy,i stick him or her down wind at least 100 to 200 yds.down wind to my right 75yds. that way i only swing to my left, being right handed its easer for me that way.and having them that far they may see when i dont. it does work .35 coyotes and counting... try this , and have fun!!

Myself I usually call (mouth or electronic) for about 3 min. and pause for a 1 min. and as far as time on a stand, personally I stay on mine for 45 min. I'm in no hurry. Several times I have made short stands 15/20 min. and stood up to leave only to see a coyote bustin tail to get out of there. Besides if you don't have alot of stands enjoy the extra time to notice what the other animals (birds, squirrels etc.) are doing around you. They can always give you a tip when there is a coyote coming into your stand. Good luck and have fun! - Askel

Are you using the same type of calling sequence as your partner does with the mouth call? And are you using the same stands as the ones using the mouth call?
You also might try a woodpecker or pup distress or kitten.
