Fished the Au Sable today. Run is at a variety of levels, from freshies to crusties. Alot of hens are done or almost, and some bucks are starting to get pretty ragged. Didn't see a whole lot of fish today, but saw a whole lot of people. Fish are either on gravel, or near it. So you can either work the dark water, or be a raker, your choice. Myself, I went 2-4, a 5lb buck that had just turned color, bobbed from the white-water, and a rainbow-colored hennie of the same weight, that fell to an oregon-cheese micro egg on 4lb, she came from a depression behind a gravel hump that had an old redd on it. There are some fresh-run fish around, I seen a guy land a 6lb buck at 3am that was so bright he looked like a fall fish, just dark/light, no color. I'm assuming we'll get our usual May push, then that'll be all till fall, unless we get high-water in June, that always extends the season. There have been some unusual catches this spring. There have been three lakers caught at the dam, not unusual in November, but April?! Also, a guy landed a loose LRB hen from the Gasline the other day, that's definanetly weird. River was low and clear, and the bright sun had the fish somewhat scattered, I'm sure the droves of people didn't help, tight-lines!
