Hi all,
Can anyone direct me to a campground or two within an hour of the Ohio border? I do a lot of tent camping and I'm looking to try somewhere different. Somewhere near water and the more primitive the better would be ideal. Thanks in advance.

There is a KOA in Petersburg, south of Dundee, on US-23. It's in the location you mentioned, but isn't real primitive. Sterling State Park in Monroe is a nice place to stay, and is within 1 hour of the state line.
Now that you mention it, if you stretch your envelope to 2 hours, you could hit Bruin Lake campground northwest of Dexter. Also Portage Lake campground in the Waterloo Rec Area, near Chelsea.

Here's one but it is probably a two hour drive from the Ohio border.http://www.geneseeotterlakecampground.com/
Huyck's Lake Campground-Huyck Lake (S of Coldwater) (517)238-2674
Primitive camping, about ten miles west of the Ohio and Indiana border and one mile north of the Michigan and Indiana border right off I-69.
Huyck Lake is a nice fishing lake with a 10 mph speed limit. It used to be good pike fishing, but I have not fished it for 25 yrs.

hayes state park. It is located just west of Clinton Mi. Nice campground but the down fall is you almost have to drive to the swimming area.

Guys,
Thanks for the info. It looks like I'll have to make a road trip one of these weekends and check out some of the spots you gave me.
