took my son out for his first rabbit hunt sunday. he's 6. man did we have a blast. saw a couple but dad's shooting needs a little work (his words). this is the first time i've taken him out and i cannot explain how good it feels. went to gander mountain and got him a vest and hat like dad's. i dont think i've ever seen him smile like that. he didnt want to go home, had to promise to go this weekend just to get him in the truck. good luck and take a kid hunting....it does wonders for the soul.

Very cool! Taking your kids hunting is one of the coolest things on the planet!

Thats how I got into hunting and fishing was rabbit hunting with my dad. I was just tall enough to see over the weeds and old enough to jump the ditches. To this day I can remember looking forward to getting up in the wee hours of the morning on a Saturday. My dad had all his stuff out and I had my BB gun. Dad would load everything in the trunk of the '77 LTD (including the beagles). We would head off to New Boston before I-275 was even there, and spend the day walking the woods. I get goose bumps just typing and thinking about this. I am 32 years old now and it just seems like yesterday. I know your kid will have the same kind of memories Skyblaster. Keep up with the hunting trips, its something niether of you will forget!!! I have a 2 1/2 year old daughter and a 2 month old son and I am looking forward to the day me, grandpa and the kids go on our first rabbit hunt together :)

I never had those experiences with my father...Everytime I would ask if he wanted to go hunting or fishing he would say, "Sure I'll make a tee-time..." I have a one year old now and cannot wait to take him out with me...I have been taking him in a backpack out on my hunting property the last few days it's been warm...Looks like he enjoys it...

My daughter, just a little over 2.5, is always asking to go out back in the woods and look for boom boom (deer) tracks, and look for trees where deer itch their horns (rubs). Its so cute how can I refuse. I think she is going to be my outdoorsgirl. You can never expose them to the wilderness to early.

First had my son out in the woods with me when he was 15 months and then squirrel hunting at 2 1/2 years. He loves it and wants his own bow so he can get me a deer. I have a little time before that because he is only 3 1/2 now, but I just love to have him along with me enjoying the hunt not just the harvesting of the game. :) :)

I can remember well my first hunt. It's great that you are starting your youngster out at an early age. Try taking him/her squirrel hunting next autumn. Keep a diary of your hunts with your children including dates, ages, places, species, and the results of the hunt. It matters not whether you harvest game or fish.

Way to go Dad. I started hunting when I was carried on my fathers shoulders. I have taken my son's[4] since they were in diapers. The youngest is now 6 and I cant get out of the house without them asking to go. I think they will always hunt and fish with dad. When they get a little older maybe they will invite me to hunt with them and thier hunting friends. I certainly hope so. Does it get any better than that?

Good job, it's difficult raising kids today but giving of youself is the right way. Remember, if you take your son hunting you won't have to hunt for your son, Jack

my stepson zack is 12 & currently is a bowhunter. he shoots with his dad and me as well. wow did he impress me the first time i saw him shoot;) he didnt see a deer hunting with his dad this fall. i was sure we wouldnt as well all the noise coughing & bumping around in the box blind not to mention the handheld video game he brought with him. just when i fell asleep on our 4th & final hunt zack said he heard something , sure enough there was 2 does. we ended up filling a doe tag what an experiance!:p
