Recommend a SE Mich or Thumb area campground for me.

i want to go tent camping sometime in may. i live in macomb county and don't want to drive to far. maybe a campground in oakland, genessee, lapeer or st. clair county. we want it to have a lake with good fishing and lots of woods or nature trails. it will just be adults camping so an extra 'kid' friendly park is definitely not needed. i stayed at 7 lakes state park last year and had a great time but we want to try some place different this time. here is my question: what campground (in those particular counties) would you recommend?? i know i can go online and see some of their web sites but i want first hand recommendations from people who actually stayed at the parks...

Holly state park is just down the road from 7 lakes. The campground is very nice with sites completely in the woods on 1 side. Or more grassy with woods surrounding on the other. The whole campground is very hilly. There are plenty of trails throughout. Across the street there are 3 lakes which are excellent for panfish and bass fishing. We stayed there last year & rented a rowboat across the street. We enjoyed our trip there. Hope this helps.
