Finally the stars aligned just right and I was able to make the initial voyage with my boat for this year. Ya gotta love it when you pull the girl from storage, prep it for running, make the trip and everything performs flawlessly. :D One thing I definitely need to do is give the boat a good bath and a wax job. Too busy trying to fish and letting her look like it.

Launched out of DNR ramp at Patterson Rd., (being dredged out right now, one lane only for launching and retreival ), a bit later than usual but still only around 9:00am. Headed out toward the north and the wind which had the Bay putting out two footers and a few white caps. 14' of water, purple iridescent Husky Rapala on one and a Flo. orange jointed floater on the two lines out. Trolled around for 30 min. then had a fish on the Husky, 18" in the box. Two minutes later, same bait, 19" in the box. Swapped out the flo. orange and went to a purple perch Rapala instead which brought up my third 'eye, another 19" another 20 minutes after that. Ended up three for the day after another fruitless hour of messing around in other locations. Wind was laying down pretty well as the morning went on, actually turned out very nice. Great fun though overall !!! :fish2: :fish: :fish2: SSSooooooo good to be on the water again !!!

Do you use any weight on the Rapalas when you run deeper than 8 fow. I have not had much luck on the Rapalas trolling.:fish:

I run B.J. "Mini-Discs" to help get down and out away from the boat. Use a four foot leader between it and the Rap. Good luck. :fish:

Will those mini disk plain off to the side if you are using in-line boards?

Thanks,

Tom

Yes, you can run these discs off of any planer board. The mini-discs have a moveable weight riding underneath that when set SLIGHTLY off center, allows the disc to ride "cocked" off toward the side you have moved the weight toward as well as pulling itself downward. Moving forward in your boat when pulling these discs forces the water against this canted angle and pushes it down and away. Let's say you are setting your rod up on the starboard side of your boat. Looking at the disc as it would be pulled by your line when trolling, move the weight on the disc slightly off center TOWARD your boat. The water will then push against the disc (which is now riding canted toward your boat) AWAY from your boat as well as downward. Opposite set up for the port side. I find if you move the weight too much off from the center mark on the disc, you'll get into it rolling over. Not good. Experiment with them. Very useful little item for my trolling on the Bay. :)
