Agency survey examines life in Lake Charlevoix

DNR crews are conducting an extensive fish population study this month on Lake Charlevoix. The fish — the DNR's main focus is on walleye and northern pike — are captured, tagged, measured and released again.

The survey began April 4. By Thursday, about 1,000 walleye had been tagged with a week to go in the survey.

"This type of survey is rare, because it's so intensive and somewhat costly, because of the number of people involved," said Patrick Hanchin, a DNR fisheries biologist at the Charlevoix research station.
