Got out on Independence Lake for a couple hours today. Brought home 10 gills & shellcrackers for an afternoon snack. They were hanging out near the reeds in 5-8 FOW. Waxies on small ice jigs below a slip bobber as usual were the trick. Got my line hung up on one of the reeds and while I was trying to free the hook I lost my balance and almost capsized the small jon boat I bought off Fish24/7 last year. :yikes:
Anyone else chasing the pannies around today?

My spring weekends are slowly filling up with weddings and graduations:rant:

The only place I have found that talked about fish called "shellcrackers" was in Florida. Do we have a new species or have I been missing something up here?

Shellcracker is another term for redear sunfish. Yes, the same as is in Florida. Not quite as common in this state as the bluegill but they're around in good numbers on certain lakes.
