I used to go to Canada every year to fish with my brother and friends. I took about 10 years off while the kids were growing up.

Now I have the time, but need to stay closer to home for work considerations (sometimes I need a phone and internet access).

I have fished in the UP and Drummond Island but was wondering if there are some good places in the lower pennisula to rent a cabin and walleye fish.

One friend mentioned near Oscoda with the rivers and bay and then if the water is rough or we want to trailer to another lake or location to pike fish etc. we could. Another recommendation was Portage Lake in Onekema (near Manistee).

Anyone have any recommendations? Probably looking at lat May or June as first choice of times.

Thanks!

Gregg

Hubbard Lake is a beautiful lake. Quiet, not in a busy area, and still has a number of rentals around the lake. However, the lake might be a tough bet for a newbie to the lake. It took me about ten years to figure out when and where the walleyes will bite, there are still times when I swear they've got my number. You won't catch a lot of monsters, but you'll get good eaters in the 17" range. Hubbard affords you a lot of options though, you are an hour from lots of other areas, au sable river, long, grand lakes, etc.

Lake Erie. There will be lots of this this year. You can stay at the State Park if you want to camp. You ma be able to find something on the lake to rent. May-June has been good fishing for me.

Not familiar with too many lakes in Michigan but have always done well with the eyes drifting the weed edges of Van Ettan in Oscoda. Smaller lake but plenty of fishable water. You can always do the Au Sable if they aren't in there. A good number of rentals available there as well.
