With the price of gas at almost $3.00/gal, I'm looking for a closer place to launch from on the DR. Does the ramp at Alter Rd have boat size limitations? I have a 20 ft lund. Thanks for any info.

From what I understand it is quite shallow there. You should be alright at St. Jeans.

Depending on how much water you draw, right down the middle of the canel its only 2 1/2 feet deep, just be sure to tilt your motor all the way up, and rig for shallow running, saw a 19 foot Lund launch there the other day, and he had no problems.

You should be fine. We haven't used it but we stop over to the launch on Thursday night and talked to a guy who was pulling out a 17FT tracker. He said it's 4-5 FT deep in the middle of the canal. So keep it in the middle. And then we asked him how to get to the river from the launch using the canal. It would be hard to explain how in text form. But you should be fine. I would stop by the launch and maybe you'll catch someone pulling out like we did. Good Luck, I would use it over St. Jean

deepest way out from alter road canal. When pulling away from the ramp, go south, towards Downtown. at the end take a right and then a quick left and follow this out. It is at this point a large wide deep canal out to the river. If you end up going under a bridge you have gone the wrong way from which I just described..andy

He's right, that's what the guy at the launch told us. I just couldn't think of a way to explain it.

Be careful, the main canel they are talking about may be 4 feet deep, but the canel the ramp is on is about 2 1/2 went through there this morning to check it out, kicked up mud all the way, and I have a 16, so just be cautious.

Thanks for the replys guys. I will give it a try. From the reports I have been seeing there just as many fish being caught on the upper river as the lower. Why drive to Trenton.
