1. How heavy is your sinker and what type when whipping on the SCR?
2. Most people I have talked to run a couple of pencil plugs, and the end lure is a Rapala. What type of Rapala is used on the end?
3. Is there a limit in US waters as to how many plugs/rapalas you can tie off on your whipping rig?
Thanks.

your sinker will differ where you are at. by marysville north of the junction bouy i use a 2.5 or 3 ounce but when i get south of the golf course i use a 2 ounce. you can only run two lures per line in the water. As far as rapalas i use # 9, 11 and 13. i would rather use a long a bomber but the colors are very limited any more.:fish:

My interpretation is that you can run up to 2 lines and 4 hooks (lures) in any combination not to exceed those numbers. So, possible combinations going for the maximum include:
A) 1 rod could be used with 4 lures or
B) 2 rods with 2 lures each or
C)1 rod with 3 lures and 1 lure on the second rod
Naturally anything less is also allowed so 1 rod with 1 lure and no 2nd rod is also allowed.

The few times I went whipping we did not bother with a Rapala on the end. We just ran 3 Pencil Plugs and left it at that.
As to the type of Rapala I would think the same as you would use while wire-lining. For me that would be a neutral bouyancey or floating Rapala.

I usually go with 2 pencil plugs and a rap. I've used both floating and husky jerk raps, usually #11 in Clown, Vampire and Purpledescent. You'll need a variety of bell sinkers ranging from 1 to 3 oz in .5 oz increments. Make sure that you use no stretch line (I prefer Spiderwire).

I like to use a #13 Rap on front, two Pencils, and my ultimate end lure is (was) the Thunderstick Junior in the OLD firetiger color. If anyone has any of these in their old color scheme, I will pay top dollar. I lost my last one last year and have only been able to find the deep jrs. in that color.
Weights from 1-3 oz, seem to use 1.5 a lot. In deeper water, I have used 5 and 6 ouncers. Also, running four with the #13 in front requires a bit more weight.

It's basically handlining while anchored. Someone posted this link a couple of days ago...http://www.dwfonline.com/art_of_whip_fishing.htm

Let me start by saying I'm no whipping pro. But the general Idea is to pull off the bottom and let the sinker settle back down (usually further down river). If you attempted this from shore the line would end up at shore.

There is another way to set up for whipping. I have a picture of the set up in my photo gallery. I've managed to pick up a Walleye or two with this set up over the years.............Bob B.
