I received my black bear rug back from the taxidermist. Overall the rug looks great but in a couple of places bullet holes, etc the tears in the hide are not sewn together. If the hair is brushed in the right direction you can not see them . Is this normal or should they have been closed?

Sheerlock5,

I would have to say no!, but call several other professionals as ask.

in general taxidermy when you wet down the hide to stretch it you sow up all the holes from the skin side so you will not see it from the hair side.
no it should not be that way.:)

Is it fully rugged or just tanned?

Not sure what is meant by rugged? It is fully laid out mounted to black and read felt. How difficult would it be to have it fixed?

Tanned: holes are not usually sewn.

Rugged: head mounted and felt sewn around edges.

Sewing the holes from the outside should not be any trouble.

But, shouldn't the sewing still have been done by the taxidermist! JJ

Can any recommend some one around the Cadillac area who could repair this rug for me?
