I am curious if people float the Au Sable on pontoon boats. We are looking to try a new river instead of the PM. Floating the AS sounds like a good change.

what section of AS and how big/ what kind of pontoon? My guess is if you can float it on the PM then you can take it out onm the Ausable as generally speaking the Ausable is wider and deeper then the PM....

I don't know anything about the AuSable. I have been to some stairs once. I also went to the dam. We are going to have 9ft pontoons. Nothing special. I know its a lot bigger then the PM, which is what I know best.

I saw some guys on a pontoon boat during Salmon season about 8 years ago. I think it was an Aqua Patio. They were tooling around and seemed to be having a good time - although they were clueless about fishing for Salmon. They did have to find a real wide spot to turn it around.

In all seriousness (although that story is true) a pontoon would work fine on the Big Sandy. Just be alert to logs which are just under the surface - there are tons of them in the upper river.
