I was just wondering if there were any coon hunters around. I know its just for sport anymore, but I've often thought of giving it a shot since they are so numerous, but don't have a clue.

Haven't hunted coon for some time, but amazed to find out just how many people do. I took some trapped coon to a local skinning guru, and was amazed to see the hundreds of coon harvested from Mid- Michigan. The prices went up a bit this year and guys are getting up to $15 for the prime, BIG Boars. The dog runners seemed to have a good year. When I used to hunt them it was with Q-beams and a long hike along the stream. Denning activity has put them past prime, and most fur (N. of G.R.) is just about worthless. Anyway, give it a shot! good times, and one less bandit to raid the duck, grouse, and Turkey nests!:)

yes there is still coon hunters around! this past fall i had the greatest oppurtunity of my life. i met an old fellow planting a winter wheat field while i was taking a lunch break, i knew right away this man was a hunter by the sound of the howls comming out of his dog box in the back of his truck. noticing this i walked over to talk to the gental man and struck up a conversation with him. to make a long story short he was a coon hunter. i asked him if he ever wanted to teach a greenhorn like myself the ropes of coon hunting just give me a call. aas luck would have it 2 days later i recieved a phone call. Do ya wanta go run some coons? well you know it! it was one of the greatest experiences of my life. and i hope to continue the friendship that i have made and the tradition that hes passing down.

try coon calling at night with a call or a tape player(coon puppies) and coon fighting tape sold by Johny Stewert its great but dont go by your yourself take a buddy. because these tapes make them mad so becareful have spot lights and make sure they are charged up or you may get bit they donot stop coming at the sound so keep alert and be serious no goofing never put the speaker near you .and never set near trees setup in an open fieldnever in the woods 12 ga 3inch 4 shot will do the job hope i havent scared you but i have done these donts and no fun so try this and you will have the time of your life have fun and becareful deerhunter

I was just curious to know the rules and regulations as well as the season for trapping small game such as opossums and coon. I have some traps out for fox and coyote and I just picked up a coon and two opossums.

Get ahold of someone that runs them with hounds. You will have a blast.

Welcome Arubley to the site...sounds like a great story, and the makings of a friendship as well. Maybe if you have more time you can post a little about what it is/was like running coons behind some hounds, Those like myself who havent yet been lucky enough to try would love to hear more.

deerhunter welcome to the site as well. You make it sound pretty convincing that calling them is effective....

Anybody in NE Michigan that could use a hunting partner at night ...let me know I would love to participate.
