Department of Natural Resources Partners with WGVU Television Fundraising Auction
The public is invited to tune into WGVU Television's Auction April 17-22 to bid on a week-long camping stay at Grand Haven State Park during the 2006 Coast Guard Festival. The auction raises funds for WGVU, a non-profit public television station based at Grand Valley State University.
The Department of Natural Resources provided the camping stay from July 31 to Aug. 7 on site #139, which offers 50-amp electrical hookups and can accommodate up to a 50-foot camper. The site is located on the sandy Lake Michigan beach with of view of the lighthouse and is located within walking distance of the rest of the Coast Guard Festival events. The retail value of the donation is $203.
"This camping stay helps promote all state parks and recreation areas across the state," said Ron Olson, chief of the Parks and Recreation Division. "Along with providing support for public television, it's an opportunity for us to promote and raise awareness of the natural and recreational resources available in Michigan's premier state parks and recreation system."
The auction runs from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. each night. Items coming up for bid will be listed during the day on the station's web site, www.wgvu.org. The DNR reminds people to make their camping reservations now at one of the 70 park campgrounds.
The DNR is committed to the conservation, protection, management, use and enjoyment of the state's natural resources for current and future generations.
