View Full Version : Mercury 40HP 1995 Installation instructions / diagrams / pictures

I bought a 40 HP to replace my 25 HP Mercury. I think the Quick Silver controls will work swimmingly...
The catch is, the 40 HP has the tiller conversion kit on it. ( That I am removing)..
This makes it a little tricky for me to Figure out a couple things including where the steering arm hooks on. I surfed for a couple hours looking for pictures or diagrams.. If anyone know a link so I could look at how they are normally hooked up, I would appreciate that.

AND $71.50 PLUS shipping for a manual to see where the steering arm hooks up isnt my style. If I was doing an engine rebuild then I would buy one.

I would think that your best bet would be the factory service manual. Here's a link that should get you what you need. They aren't cheap but well worth it.

I just picked one up this weekend for 10 bucks in Mt. Pleasant. what is the serial number on the motor. If i can help I'll scan and email some pages.

I dont know the serial number. it is a 1995 40 HP. Thats the 4 CYL.

Do you have the motor yet. If so, the serial number should be located on the transom mount on the starboard side. It's just a tag that will have the number on it. You're going to need that number to order pretty much any parts or get any accurate info on your motor.

You should just stop by your local mercury dealer he should be happy to point you in the right direction and point out any options that are available to you, if you need anything for the swap you will probably be buying it from him.
