I'm changing the waterpump impeller on an old Chrysler 6 HP Outboard. The impeller that I'm removing has 10 blades and the new one I ordered has 6. Should I return it or will the 6 work just fine?
Thanks for the help.

I would contact whomever makes the impeller and ask them if the 6 blade is the correct replacement. All that really matters is that the correct GPM of water is flowing through the engine. Its possible that a six blade could still push the right volume of water based on several other factors.
Also, you'd get more responses placing this in the boat forum.

Thanks Jason! I contacted the dealer today and he knew about the 10 blade vs 6 blade. He indicated that the 10 blade was about 50 bucks and pushed less water than the 6. The 6 cost only $15 so it's a no brainer! More water - less money.
I was hoping to get it installed yesterday thus the reason for the post. A day late isn't so bad!

I will go out on a limb here and say that the ten blade impeller is probably an NOS part, probably difficult to mold and no longer easy to get, while the new 6 blade is probably the quicksilver replacement for the part (a mercury part with a different shaft insert) probably plenty available and a more durable to boot.

probably difficult to mold
I agree and more rubber, more money, less space between the "blades"
