I've got a 27 foot Sundancer that I'm going to put an autopilot on. Can someone help me in my selection process. I really don't even know where to start. Any suggestions on what brands are good and what are bad.

I have done a few installs on Simard and Raymarine. I personally have a Simrad AP-14 and it works great. You need rotary steering for this unit, but you can always change out the steering cable. It will mount behind the helm and need 10” of clearance. If you have the room back there, this would be a good unit for you.

I will second what Bill said. For the money, the Simrad AP14 is hard to beat. I have nearly 1000 hours of flawless trolling mine. I've fished 20+ straight hours and NEVER TOUCHED THE WHEEL. I can troll straight into some bad waves. Several of mine and Bills buddys have put the same units on their boats and are extremely pleased.

Beyond that, if money permits, check out the New high end TR--1. Pretty sweet based on specs and reviews. Havent used one. About 3X as much thought.
