Koby......how did you do?
got out there 8am
started drilling holes and marking fish in 40-44 feet of water, straight out from the launch at the south end
set up a tip up and within 5 minutes up it goes...nothing there
reset the tip up, up it goes again, nothing there!
start jiggin a hole right next to that flag and boom a 12"crappie. Rebait and dropped down and boom another big crappie. Dropped it down a third time and boom another one!
well, me and my buddy are pumped and puzzled at the same time
fifteen minutes, three big tasty crappies and were thinking slaughter....but crappie in 42 feet of h20 and on the bottom???
and then.................NOTHING THE REST OF THE DAY (left at 5:30)
after dropping the camera down we observed that the water was teeming with pollen-like, bright chartruse green specks of algae or some type of micro organisms.
a check of the fish's stomach contents revealed nothing but a thick green slime, which i can only assume is an accumulation of all the green specks that they must be eating....based on that im amazed we caught anything at all (the jig used was chartruse by the way). the other anglers on the lake reported catching NOTHING
im reminded fishing Lake Gogebic one summer when the lake was also full of these green specks/organisms and for two days we couldnt get anything. then a monster storm (and i do mean monster...our rented 16ft aluminums were sunk dockside, and another guys brand new 18ft walleye boat was trashed) blew through. the next day the water was crystal clear without any trace of the green specks and to make a long story short, the fishing the rest of the week was PHENOMENAL
we dont intend on going back to Davison. theres jumbo fish in it but theyve got too much food supply
if you decide to give it a try, i think you have to stick with chartruse to match the color of what theyre feeding on
our next adventure is to Lake Orion to target walleye, which apparently no one fishes for over there, and which have been heavily stocked for many years

Thanks for the report. At least you know there are good sized fish in Davison. I wasn't aware that Orion had walleye. I know there are some big bass in there, as well as some decent sized pan fish. The summer is very busy with boats and those damn jet skiis, so winter may be a good time. Carefull....the lake is one of the last to freeze in the area. I'm heading to Lake Nepessing today. Later.
