I will add other animals and "finished" care later.

Waterfowl and upland birds.

Cool as soon as possible.

Dry off excessive blood or water with a towel - paper is fine.

Place it head first into a pair of pantyhose with the wings folded.

If it will be in the freezer for a while, wrap the beak and feet in damp paper towel

Place inside a plastic bag, squeeze out a much air a possible. Repeat.

Refrigerate (if the trip to the taxidermist will be soon) or freeze.

Try to avoid dog mouths and game pouches. These steps will take a few extra moments, make the taxidermists job easier, and produce a better end product.

Good luck and shoot straight.

When you say "head-first",, should the head be "tucked" down, like with its bill on its chest? And also,, if I have to freeze it,, is a vacuum sealer or food saver recommended?

Either way with the head. Tucked will be easier and take less care for freezing and handling.

A vacuum sealer is a good idea as air is the main enemy in a long freezer stay.
