Anyone use it and do you like it? What about other lines? What about color? I heard this past weekend that red and yellow line are the best colors not to be detected after 3 feet of water? Any other myths? :fish:

I've been using fireline for a few years jigging on the rivers. Love it. You can pull the jigs out of snags no problem. As far as color I have not noticed a difference in hits but the flouros help to keep a eye on the line. A lot of time I use flourocarbon as a leader with a swivel tide between the flouro and the fireline to try to keep down the line twist.

I absolutly love fireline! I have it on every rod except my big dipsy rods. It works great in the river for jigging. I prefer the flame green color and usual attach a flurocarbon leader with a uni to uni knot.

I prefer the Hi Vis green for river jigging and trolling. The line is easy to see which helps me keep it vertical in the river. I use a 3-4 foot length of flourocarbon tied to a ball bearing swivel on the mainline. I use a lighter test of flourocarbon for jigging so that when snagged on the bottom I can break the leader and jig off without losing any of the main line.

I use fireline more and more jigging in the river. I have used Mono on a very nice rod for many years and usually go back to mono sometime during the day. Fireline is great for jigging though. I use the smoke color for jigging. I have just spooled up the yellow fireline to try this season. Ryan you have to try fireline for your dipsey rods. I have used 30# fireline for about ten years now and it is awsome for dipsey's. I can hit bottom in 85 feet of water and release the dipsey on one pull.

You guys use a backing when spooling up fireline. Heard the drag wont' work unless you have backing?

The drag should still work even without a backing line placed first. The reason that so many put on a backing is that they are trying to save money. Only half of the expensive line would need to be be placed on the spool if there is a less expensive monofiliment placed on first. Also, many users put on some mono first because the mono will not slip on the face of the spool.

That is my understanding of the situation.

Actually you use a backer when using fireline not only to save money, but the mono gets a better grip on the spool.

Yes, I mentioned that in my posting:

The topic of backing lines (usually mono) being used with more expensive lines, Fireline being an example, was a big topic on the Walleye mailing list just a couple of weeks ago.

i started using fireline last year in the 30lb test and i did not back it with anything and it never gave me any problems. i switched to 20lb test and trust me you "have to" back it with mono. the fireline will turn on your spool. i fished for 30 minutes and had to take all the fireline off and put mono on first. save yourself the hassle back it with mono.

Try POWER PRO. I like here much better than fireline.

Try some Gamma copolymer and you won't go back to the fireline. Strongest non-braid line I've ever come across.

Or instead of putting a backing on the spool you can put a piece of double sided tape on your spool and then start spooling.

I have my jigging and BB rods spooled with 10lb. smoke grey fireline. I have had a very hard time seeing the line while jigging so I removed some grey and tied on some hi vis green fireline. We'll see how that works this year.

The object for putting mono backing on is to bulk up the spool on the reel so when you put your filler spool of fireline on you have a full reel. Fireline is a great line for jigging you can feel the bite better and with the colored lines they have, you can see it easier and that is very important when verticle jigging. They also have pink in fireline now, its new this year.

They had the pink line out last year too. I didn't like it because a pink dust go all over your reel after a while of fishing with it.

Real (reel?) men don't use pink!!!

But my girlfriends son (he's 15) says pink is the new blue. Whatever!!! I'll stick to more traditional line colors, thank you!
