Last year I took a friend fishing for his first time since he was young. His 2nd fish was a 18.5inch 4.5lb largemouth. He would like to buy another rod for fishing mainly pike/bass and MAYBE try for a steelhead. He has a 6' medium light spinning pole. What size and action pole should he get? I was thinking a 7' medium or mheavy. I'm not sure if he will steelhead fish at all.

That sounds about right to me for the rod. And a 2500 series spinning reel with 10lb Gamma line. I jig for steelies with this same setup. Difference is with the steelies... drag is VERY important!! They can really run... nothing like a bass. So a good reel with a good drag system, like a Shimano perhaps, is key.

Oh, and don't forget the senkos!!!!

just have to consider his size and the weight of a 7' heavy action combo....may tire him out if the day lasts a long time. i know this from experience....i am only 5'9" and sometimes a 7' rod is a little akward for me, so usually i stick to 6'6" rods. this allows me to fish for longer periods without alot of fatigue. just something to think about.:fish:

p.s......senkos are tied on at ALL times!!!!!!!!!!

My friend is 6'4'' and weighs 275lbs. I can handle a 7ft rod all day so i think he will be fine. I already planed on getting him more senkos. I know what other baits to have him buy.

I think everyone at my school fishes. We have a school with only 400 people in it. We get Nov. 15th off as well. Its a holiday for us.

Well back to my friend. I have him into bass and pike fishing so far. He has senkos, a spoon and 1 popper. I know what he should get but i might be forgetting something. Tell me what lures should i have him buy.

White spinner baits. A couple buzz baits. More Senkos. 3/0 wide gaps for the Senkos. Scum frogs in several colors. Oh, and crank baits... lots of crank baits.

and more white spinnerbaits. along with some larger in-line style spinners like mepp's and larger rooster tails. pike will hit just about any lure a bass will, so keep in mind that by purchasing a lure for bass, you may also be covering pike as well.

don't forget the live-bait aspect for pike...big floats and big suckers for bait.
