I just Discovered that Google Earth is the greatest thing to ever happen to my fishing log. Does anyone understand what I'm talking about? I didn't want to post a topic about something everyone already Knew. So let me know if I should continue.......................................... .

I used google earth to get a good Aerial view of the lakes I plan to fish. Insert some photo paper into the printer, and print out a photo of the overhead view of the lake. Some of the google earth sattelite photos are such good quality, you can sea depths and underwater structure.
Anyway, I get a pack of clear transparency paper and overlay them on the photo. On one piece of paper, I mark topo depths and structure with a transparency marker. On another sheet, I mark each spot where I've taken a fish. What an awesome tool to track migrating schools and patterns. You can use eraseable markers to cut down on paper. Use certain colored markers to represent techniques or presentations. This should help fisherman's ability to accurately map and track fish and feeding behavior...........the possibilities are endless

you can also downsize the pic and print it on regular paper, this leaves room for notes Info under the picture. mark up a new sheet for each trip, then file them in a three ring binder.
You have to have a High speed connection for google earth to work, it pulls alot of data. My home computer works much better then my one i have at work, just because it is more powerful. I have all the boat launchs, hots spots, and camping sites on it. You guy might want to try www.freeboatingcharts.com. That way you can have the depth open in one window and the arial photos for google earth open in the other. Now if google earth started putting the depths on it, it would be the best thing ever! Between this site and google earth I get nothing done at work.:shhh:

Right on, I never even thought of that. It's fairly easy to get topo maps of the big lakes around here (any tackle shop) but google comes in handy for some of the small private lakes and irrigation ponds I like to fish. I get a close up shot of the pond on google, then use my cheapy depth finder to map out depths and chart them on the pic. Thanks for the link Kirb.
No problem your tax dollars paid for it.

I'm glad you guys are digging it. Sometimes the resolution up close can be distorted, and some areas are more updated than others. I had problems today trying to map out the Huron River in the Ann Arbor area, but got Barton Pond pretty well. My usual bass lake came in so clear, I could see the weedbeds. Paying customers get much better resolution and coverage. I think the download version costs about $20
