Ok guys don't beat me up to much on this one. I'm a duck hunter who is about to spend to much money on a boat to only use it for hunting, so I gotta fish more.

My question is I have friends who only fish for walleye and I have friends who only fish for bass. Can I get away with using the same rod and reel for the two or do I need to get two different set ups? If I can get away with one set up what should I be looking for (medium action?/ what lbs line)?

Go ahead and have your fun then try to give me so good insight.

Thanks

Get a 6' medium spinning action rod, a Shimano 2000 series spinning reel and throw on 8 lb. trilene XL and you can use this for both with no problem.
Depending on which rod & reel you are looking at $50 to $100 for the whole set up.

I agree with the medeium action spinning rod idea, but personally, I prefer my rods to be at least 7'. That gives you longer casts, better line control, and the ability to really move some line on the hook set or to snap some weeds free.

I picture Hotwired jigging, Esox casting.

Which method would your buddies use most of the time?

Maybe a 6'6" rod would suffice.

I am guessing I will be doing more casting then anything else.

Thanks for taking the time

I have lots to learn

It wont be long before your hooked and will need a special type of rod for each species, every lure type and color and a bigger boat.

But that's half the fun!
