Ok, how does everyone set up for jigging the river for the elusive "walleye-gator"?
I know that jig weight is something that gets discussed just about daily here, but how does everyone mate them to a line? Tie them directly on, snap swivel, small clip(for quick changes)??
I was figuring that it would be a good idea to have a leader and a barrel swivel in line, but what's the best way to present it at the jig end??

I like 8-10 lb Fireline with a barrel swivel and then about 18-24 inches of mono or flouro. Up in Wyandotte where I usually fish, there are minimal snags and the occasional Musky, so I use 12 lb XT Green for my leader. I have found it gives me a better chance with the toothy critters. Last time out (October 20 at the Sturgeon Hole) we got 11 walleyes, 5 sheep, 4 Smallies up to 5.5 lbs and 2 Muskies. The largest Muskie was 47". All on this setup. Good luck.

Sorry, forgot to mention that I always tie the jig directly to the mono or flouro.

Depending on what part of the river you fish will determine size of jigs, I use 5/8 oz jigs most of the time, in spring use a stinger, 6 lb test firline, barrell swivel and 2 feet of flourocarbin, tie jig directly to the line, drop to bottom, keep verticle, and lift know more then 12 inches then drop, just tic the bottom, and lift again. Most important? Boat control, keep line verticle. Good luck.:coolgleam
Is it legal to use a drop shot set up with a Jig at the bottom, and a hook tied directly to the mainline?

The way I read the new fishing guide (remember, it is a guide and not the specific rules and regulations, just a guideline) the drop shot technique is allowed in lakes and not in rivers, steams, or drowned river mouths.

But, if you are talking about drop shotting in the Detroit River then it should be legal since it is a connecting waterway.
