Drove about 1 1/4 hours to get to Lake Fenton and the DNR ramp. Looks like a nice lake. What do most people fish for there. Noticed it was quite deep but looked very shallow in the cuts. Is Large Mouth Bass a good one to fish for. I noticed the ramp was quite shallow. Is that because to the time of the year? And info would be appreciated about the lake.:fish:

Like most of the sinkhole lakes in this area it plunges to 35/40 foot or better in spots, but has just as many 2/3 foot areas. I would guess largemouth to be the predominant species among large predators.Pike have a tendancy to run below legal limit and the walleyes are of average size. less desirable species grow well and panfish abound. I've never had a problem launching or retrieving a boat here(as large as 18 foot). Nice feature the ramp opens at 4 a.m. and doesn't close until 11 p.m., that allows for good access when the pleasure crowd is off peak. I have my best luck un the southern `1/2 of the lake others prefer the north......If you are on her when the pleasure crowd is sparse you will enjoy the hell out of her!

Don't even think of fishing this lake in the summer.

I have always regarded it as an "all sports" lake, meaning lots of juveniles on jet skis. There are several other lakes in the area.
I am just beginning my fishing exposure, so I'm interested in local lakes as well. My thoughts have gravitated more towards 7 lakes state park, west of downtown Holly. Have canoed it before and have seen a few anglers on it. Does not appear crowded, however that could be because the fishing is not good.

7 lakes is no wake i beleive. If you are looking for a peaceful nice place to fish that would be it.....and lake fenton would be the complete other end of the spectrum.

I live right next to 7 lakes State park, and all around, it is a nice park. But the fishing is weak for me. I only know of one hole, that produces walleye, and this is in the winter. I checked out a book at my local library, and it said the stocked one of the lakes in the park with Tiger Muskie. I have not heard of anyone catching them tho.

No attempt here to hijack the thread, but I have a 17' canoe (Wenonah Kevlar - touring model) and it will be my main watercraft this year for any local fishing done. 7 Lakes with its "no wake" sounds ideal. Was primarily planning on ultra lite rod, 8# powerpro, Mepps spinners (1's, 2's, & 3's) with a few jigs/plastics and some small rapalas (2-4"). Any advice is appreciated. Trying to keep it solo "portable".
