When I was a very little boy, my Dad had a 14 ft Starcraft with a 1950 vintage 5.5 HP Evinrude on it. When he went "wide open", I thought that we were FLYING! Probably we were going 6 MPH! Nonetheless, whenever he opened it up, we would sing the theme song from the Underdog cartoon. You know..."Speed of Lightning, Roar of Thunder...". So, I vowed that if I ever owned my own boat it would be called Speed of Lightning. Even though it is a 20 ft Lund with a 150 Optimax and probably does not ever exceed 35 MPH..that is what my boat is called. If you see the black Lund named Speed of Lightning...that is me...and that is why.
My buddys boat is named " Fishy Whipped" and gets a bunch of laughs:yikes: The 2005 Top Ten List of Most Popular Boat Names is compiled annually by the BoatU.S. Graphics & Lettering department that produces custom boat graphics. spoontang....lmoa. That's #1.
I liked the story on this one....I met a guy on Huron who had a boat called "3 Hands Up". I asked him what it meant...he said, he was driving around with his wife and thier 2 kids....he posed the question....who wants to get a boat. 3 hands went up (you can guess who didn't put her's up). Hence the name. I thought it was funny.

I have to go w/spoontang for number one. But I think 3 hands up as a close second and the most clever.
My first boat was a 68 sea king that I lovingly called "The Duct Avenger", due to it being old and always needing to be worked on. I still have the boat but it is not really seaworthy right now. If I pick up the boat I am looking at I think I am going to have to go with "Fish Whisperer".
I always thought "The Mistress" would be a fitting name too.

PA Papa's Toy II
03-26-2006, 10:44 PM
Mine is Papa's Toy 2. :yikes: My father-in-law used to fish the Detroit River all the time for eyes. His boat was a 1963, 16 foot Starcraft with a hard Blue Top. Two year's ago, finally got it running and put the name on as Papa Toy 2 as I am the Second Papa to Play with it.
You should have seen some of the stares from the Coast Guard when they used to do the safety inspections... I asked, "Never mind when you were born, How about when YOUR father was born" to see how close it was to 1963. It is in storage for now but will hit the water's again.

Well you guys got me thinking, I've never really named my boat. I used to call it the "Marshrat" when it was painted camo, but I never really applied a name to her. I've been out in the garage tonight, and I'm in the middle of repainting her for some river fishing. I think I finally came up with something worthy of the craft she is.

My 17' center council proline will be called 447. Its just some numbers my son would shout before he learned to count. When he was about 2 or 3 years old he would shout 4...4...7! and run into our arms.
See ya on Saginaw Bay.

There's a real small (12 or 14' I think) pontoon over on Black Creek near Metro. I see it every time I go over there. It's called "No Fat Chicks" :)
I laugh every time I see it.
A little bit different but along the same lines. There's a dog grooming shop over on Rochester Road in Clawson. I drove by one time and saw the sign and had to do a double take. It's called "Doggy Style". That was just too funny !

First boat was="Wire Nuts"
Then="LITE DUTY"
Then "LICK R BOX"
Then "TJ HOOKER"
I really love "MORNING WOOD".
"LICK R BOX" was a boat that NO law enforcement officer could pass by!

My family had a few friends that fished out of Manistee quite a few years ago..they had some origional names...
Mastercharge
Day Break
Dew Drop
Harbor Hugger
Reel Thing
Since our last name is Kirk, my father named his boat Enterprise. Mine, on the other hand, since I'm frequently abesent from work to be on the water is Tru-N-Sea.
Captn---
Fished on "Master Charge I" and "Master Charge II" as well as with Captain Kirk on the "Enterprise".  Used to work with both of 'em, Captain Kirk and I rode to work together for a few years.
You young fella used to play with my kids. :)
Named my duckin' boat "Quack-Attack" and my fishin' boat "Eye-Doctor".

Years ago a friend bought a used boat up north with the name "Sea Hunt" on it, which was probably after the old Lloyd Bridges tv show. Well he got an idea one day and removed the "H", leaving just "Sea unt"...:evilsmile Keep saying that quickly until you get the punchline here....he said he was towing it on the freeway shortly after that, and several cars about ran off the road laughing as they passed him. I thought it was clever....

Hey I'm excited about this so, bare with me. I was going to name my new boat "Fat guy in a little boat" in tribute to Farley but, decided that name was pretty long for a boat especially a 14 footer so, I was in waiting for a name to come to me.....AND IT DID while I was fishing last night!! I'm a musician at heart so, I found it only fitting to name her.....DOCK N' ROLL!!!
