I'll be out there sometime Saturday. Picking up the new boat from K & M first thing in the morning then headed straight to Metro Erie launch. Will be cold but hopefully not as cold as that picture of yours :chillin:
I'm off tomorrow and I'm going to stop by bottom line and talk to the guys. I'm new to river fishing and could use the help!

Yes, I will be fishing at least one of the days, maybe both, weather/water will not be like last weekend, but beats doing work around the house.

If anyone who is going out Saturday has room for an extra, I will be glad to pay for gas, bait whatever is needed. I have to be down that way at the in-laws for the weekend and would like to get out. If no one has room could you point me to someplace to shore fish. Thanks..Tony

I'm waiting for you guys to give me the good reports. I think we are still a few weeks away from getting numbers of good eaters but I'll be watching your reports. My only problem is worrying about my truck at the launch. I guess as long as someone is at St Jean, I should be OK..........I hope.

Let's hope this spring, the rift raft stays away and a guard will be inplace more often!! Nothing will ruin a good fishing trip more than coming back to your vehicle to a rude suprize!!

still, it reallly sucks coming back, happy cuz you got a cooler full from draggin the wire, and then to find your window broken out, only so they could steal change, lawn patch and a hose trigger sprayer. and then, to top it all off, to go to the cop shop on jefferson and conner a friggin 1/2 mile away, and be told that "we don't handle that here."
but wait, come to the city, we have lots to offer. yeah. thanks.

I dont know how you guys do it, I think if I was going out this weekend I would go to the north channel and get a little piece of mind at Deckers landing.. Cya Slick

I have seen this question asked a couple of times, where is Deckers landing? I to, would like a safer location to park at.

i used to launch all the time at alter road in the 80's. how much do they charge to launch now and is it any safer than st. jean?

The last time I was at Alter Road there was very little water in the canal and the ramp next to the store was in terrible shape. Few years ago.

Alter rd. has plenty of water....in the morning all the old timer river rats hang out at the store....would help keep trouble away at that time of day......can't say about at night though?? from some people I know who have wells in the area.....they say they never had a problem.....there's always a first though!

Is there any limit to the size of boat you can launch at Alter? How's the parking with respect to vehicle and trailer size?
I just returned from Canada and was checking out the free launch just down from the Ambassidor bridge. Seemed decent but only had one ramp. The guys at the bait shop said it was OK as long as the water level was up.
It's hard to predict if it's worth the extra toll, Gas and time to be in a safer area than St Jeans.

i saw some boats in the 26-28 foot range being retrieved out of alter. you just had to watch out because there was a big washout hole where the concrete ended.has anybody used it lately. i always thought it was safe when elenore owned it. she was a **tch ,but she had the place under control. the isolation of the place helped. there is only one enterance and with the trailer park gone the rif-raff should be out of there.the two fairly nice fellows that had the place after that i'm not too sure of. i'm not too sure who owns it now.

Personally I would'nt try to launch any boat bigger than 17'-18' at Alter Rd. Very little water in there for the last 6 or 7 years. The parking is'nt bad if you get there early. As far as secure, I've never had a problem but I know some who have. It's always a risk in certain areas of town. Good Luck!!!!

There are 2 ramps on the Canadian side of the Det river -upper part of the river. The first one is the one you went to. by the sturgeon hole the second one is just south of the Ambassador bridge. Its a nice deep ramp that dumps right into the river. I have not put in at either I have visited the shrubs at the ramp by the bridge;)
Alter road is a shallow canal. Bring a 2x4 in case you blow out of the main Chanel. at best when you start out you only have 2 foot to the mud. If you exit the dock and go right (or toward the mouth of the river) It is even shallower. If you go in a larger boat use you trolling mtr. until you get to deeper water. I put in there 9 times in Jan. and the dept is shallow.
I hear st. jeans doesn't have docks in but for my go on Sunday that where I'll be going.
Good luck all , Don't be stupid out there- Be aware of who is in the area, empty your veh of all good (shiny, bling stuff) prior to going or take it with you in your boat and carry a good 180 grain hollow point. Those buggers don't stop easy;)

I spent a whole 1/2 hr on the lake today. The water was to stained for perch and the waves that pounded over the back end froze as soon as it hit. I may find a place out of the wind Sunday but I don't have High expectations. I looked through two record books that I kept for the past 12 years. I'm slacking. One week behind getting limits compared to most other years. NW wind:rant:
