View Full Version : Houghton Lake walleye in the Spring?
Planning on going to HL for a few days the middle/end of May, and have never fished it before.
One of the boats going only has a 15 HP and he is concerned that if we stay in one area, we will be fishing the opposite shore.
Due to the size of the lake and his engine, what area holds the better chance of catching a few 'eyes? We will be looking for place to stay that is closer for him.
Also, what techniques are good producers at that time of year?
Thanks,
Chad

Mark are you going up with Lance and his group of hawg hunters? I'll most likely be on the water at that time, but my dad lives up there now so I'll be lodging with him. Looking forward to unlocking the secrets of the 'weed walleye'.

thats so far away it seems like a foreign country, can't you catch fish in the lower peninsula? The bite is so good everywhere in May it is hard to decide where to go. I usually take at least 10 days off in May/Early June because that is the time to fill the livewells.

The 15 horse would be find just watch the wind. Man I used to use a 5 1/2 horse on a 14' boat and went everywhere. Hope to do a little Walleye fishing on Houghton Lake this year myself. Trouble is there is so many other lakes to fish at that time that I think are better and I can't fish them all.
We figured that there are other fish to catch if we can't find the walleye on HL.
Thanks,
Chad

Chad, I have stayed at CJ'S on the east side twice during the same period your talking about. We did decent on walleyes and absolutely slayed the crappie not far from our cabin. The owner there really took care of us too.
