Looks like the Cabela's deal is not dead yet, article today in the Press about it. Looks like Cabela's is just manuevering for tax breaks is all.

To tell the truth though I will not believe it anymore until I actually walk thru the doors if/when they do open.

Hi All,
I just spent the day going from sporting goods store to another. I did a lot looking but very little buying,as did most of the people I saw. Do we need one more store? Or can we just get to know the ones we have allready.
I feel I get good service and a fair price shopping in western Mich..
What do you think?

If hunting is a religion, then maybe going to Dunham's would be like going to bible study, going to Gander Mountain would be like going to church.....bring Cabela's here and you could just go straight to the holy land....

Competition amongst stores brings prices down.....it would be a good thing.

Personally, I think from a sportsmans perspective things just keep getting better, but I fear we're gonna lose a few of the orginals stores that have catered to us through the years. HTC, I think one of the last time I talked to you was at the archery building of Al and Bob's, it's places like that, which will probably feel the brunt of a Cabela's in West Mi. I don't know if there's anyway to avoid the inevitable, but I hope some of those smaller shops can survive.

Of course, the good thing about a Cabela's is that the local shops don't have to worry much about pricing, I've never thought Cabela's was very competitive with their pricing, like Gander is.

I think the little guys will be alright, they provide the one thing that eludes all the major chains.....customer service.

I agree HTC!! You gain more person on person w/ small shops. Talking to someone who knows the bows and knows how to correctly work on them mean more than saving a few dollars. Also pro shops will carry equipment for hunters to competative archers. you wont find sure-loc, copperjohns ants,or carter at the larg chain stores.
