I haven't owned a boat on LSC for quite some time now and I understand that the rules have changed regaring what documentation you must have if you want to opperate your boat on the Canadian side. I guess my real question is whether I need any documents if I just cruise or fish on the Canadian side. The last time I owned a boat it was not necessary to have any special documentation as long as I stayed on the lake. The problems would start if I docked on the Canadian side so I made it a point never to stop in Canada.
Any information that you can provide will be appreciated.

I think the only document needed is a Canadian fishing license.

I'm pretty sure that if you anchor down in Canadian waters you are suppose to go ashore and call Canadian Customs to let them know of your intentions. I fish there quite often and I have never done this and have been checked on several occasions with no repercussions. You are also supposed to buy your minnows over there as well which so far I've haven't encountered any problems for non conformance but I've heard stories. I really try to abide by the laws but they sometimes make it some what difficult to do so.

One thing to make sure of is that you don't have one of the 12 ga. flare guns on board if you get stopped in Canadian waters. They say it is a firearm and can make for a lot of problems.

Thanks I was not aware of that . I will make sure all my flairs are of the handheld variety. I called The Department of Immigration at the Windsor tunnel and asked them what I needed to get back in to the US after fishing in Canada. He said that as long as you do not stop in Canada, you do not need anything. If you tie up some place or even anchor on the Candaian side of the line you need an form that you have to get at the tunnel. He said everyone on board had to have the doc so I am going to get one for me and my family and make sure anyone who goes with me has one.
