(Walker, March 14, 2006, 7:10 p.m.) 24 Hour News 8 has learned Cabela's, the outdoor outfitter and destination retail anchor previously reported as interested in becoming a major player in the Orchard Park development, is no longer negotiating here, or anywhere, within the state of Michigan.
The news is coming as a surprise to city of Walker Planning Director Frank Wash. "Well, first of all, it's news to the city. That, if this is true, it obviously dramatically impacts the plan."

I was really geeked on the fact that the store was going to come here :(:(

Yeah agree with ya' I heard something about Bass Pro on the news but didn't get the story.

my understanding is that Bass Pro is going to be down near Cleveland, Oh.

what the heck...build one every 50 miles and they'll be covered.

Yeah, I heard about this, but I refuse to get my hopes up again.....yeah right! :)

Actually, the Fruitport location would probably serve them better....

I think Grand Rapids would be the ideal location to build it. I believe they got the idea to build a Cabelas near here because of so many online or catalog orders coming from Grand Rapids. They chose Walker because of its location relative to the intersection of major freeways: 131 and I-96, 131 and I-196. I sure hope they do build it!
