Well my 12 year old went to the crapper on me. Its time for a new One.

The only thing my batter is used for is the bilge and running lights. I have no electric start or charging system, So the battery is going to have to be charged a couple times a year. I am also thinking of adding a stern mount trolling motor also. I want to know what type of battery I need to get. A standard deep cycle? Also where is a good place to buy a nice quality battery? I am not to fond of West marines.

Walmart had decent prices the last time i looked for a battery last year. Check them out.

They do make dual purpose batteries, which is what I run on my big boat. They can handle short, high power boost needed for starting, but can be drawn down and recharged without effecting the battery life.

Delco Voyager deep cycle cannot go wrong. Sell them at Murrays Auto. Have 4 of em in the money pit of a boat now.

That delco battery is not a AGM battery. I would get the heaviest cheap AGM battery I could find.

either a heavy agm(optima, bass pro ,cabella's) or costco has a group 27 deep cycle/starting for $62 made by johnson controls. no core charge.or a group 24 deep cycle for $44. stay away from wal-junk batteries made by exide.same goes for murray's own by champion.voyager's are good but pricy.sears can be johnson controls (gold) or exide or gnb (die hard regular).expensive for what you get. auto zone has a johnson controls batteries group 24 deep cycle for $55 plus core charge.i'm in the market myself, probably go agm. they can last twice as long with a desulfator. now ask What is that?

I would say the only advantage that Optima has is they can take a beating, but there capacity isn’t that great and they are over priced.

Say what you want about batts from WallyWorld. I have three. My two deep cycles (I also run a inverter) are going on the 4th season and my starter the second. For the price, I can't complain. I keep them topped off with a good charge when not in use and every fall fill them with distilled water to be sure they get through the winter without a problem. Come spring I check and fill as needed.
