Im getting ready to tie up a lot of leaders, both for handlining, and whipping.

For handlining im thinking 40,20....30,15....20,10.....10,5'.

And whipping, Im going to tie up 10,8,6,4'.

What are your favorite leader length for the mentioned fishing methods. Should I tie up all those sizes, or narrow it down. And one last question, what # line do you guys use to tie up your leaders. I think I'll be using 30# Mason leader material, should I use this for my whipping leaders too, or go down to a regular 20# test?

Thanks Brian:)

And how many people piggy back there second plug instead of running a longer leader off the 1st plug, with a leader of about 4 inches.

Well I just tied up my leaders, I tied 6 40' 6 20' 5 5' and 5 10 '.

The 40, and 20 will be for handlining. And the 5,10' will be for whipping. I made them all out of 30# Mason mainly due to the fact that it doesnt tangle.:)

For handlining I would tie up 40 footers and 20 footers for spring and early summer using 20# line. During the summer season I would have extra leaders of 30 and 15 feet. Often these would be tied using 15# line.

I kept a spool or two of 5 foot leaders for a kicker and would have them ready to go, usually with 15# line.

Mostly, the tangles were after getting the leaders into the boat and one of us would tangle them with our foot or when we dropped a slippery fish onto the floor. I would just bunch the leaders up and toss them into the front of the boat and put on new ones.

Later, when I had a bag full of tangled leaders I would cut the hardware off and start to tie up new ones.

12 lb. vanish for drifting and 20 lb. vanish for whippin so it coils in your boat and it dosen't knot up like light line, not to mention you may whack a brown some night 10 lb. will snap like it was never there. I run mine 6 and 4 hardly ever run 3 plugs. Brain I'll give you a hollar when it gets going or if you get them going first hollar at me.
