This year I am beginning a log of all my fishing trips making notes about the conditions as they relate to my fishing success.I am curious as to what others have learned about the barometer and its affect on fishing conditions?.....Freeze....Freeze...Freeze...RFM

For me it's pretty simple.

Unstable weather = iffy fishing.

3 or more days of stable weather = good fishing.

The weather doesn't neccasarilly have to be good, just stable.

3 days of stable rain and wind is just as good as 3 days of stable sun and calm.

3 days of stable high pressure is just as good as 3 days of stable low pressure.

Don't just record the day you fish, record what the weather has been like for the previous few days pryor to your fishing trip.

Magnet, for the most part I agree with your observations but don't rule out a falling barometer. When a storm was moving in has been some of the best fishing I have ever had. Here is a quote from the Rocketman (muskie fisherman) on his web page regarding lunar phases. "When a Major happens right at sunset, with overcast conditions, and a storm ready to hit, HOLD ON TO YOUR SHORTS!!!"

:) I have to agree with Gone Fishing - the only differnce is that for me it seems that a falling barometer storm front is the ticket - sometimes we have high pressure fronts pushing 30 plus numbers and that seems to hurt rather than help - you have to keep in mind I only fish during months with an "R" in them - that summer time thing is for painting decoys....LOL

A buddy of mine beleives in the theory of : the barometer of 30.00 and above for a few days then a falling barometer with the approach of storm and during the storm is excellant fishing. He keeps asking if we are going fishing when rain is forcasted. I don't like getting wet.

I never catch any with a high barometer. When it falls, especially the day before a storm front moves in is always the best!
