I just received my plate renewal pack in the mail and was looking at the specialty plates. The only one that pertains to the outdoors is the Wildlife Habitat w/ the loon on it. They state that $25.00 of the intial $35.00 plate cost and $10.00 of all subsequent renewals goes to the cause. Does anyone know what cause that might be?

and I also believe it pertains to non-game wildlife.

Go to the online E-Store at the DNR site. There is quite a few things besides the plates.

I think their going to have a Ducks Unlimited plate coming out within the next year or so. Some states already have them.

From SOS Site........Wildlife Habitat: Against a backdrop of trees, the distinctive black-and-white loon and her chick rest in quiet waters, highlighting the need to protect Michigan’s non-game wildlife and habitat.

So this is a worthwhile project then?

I don't mean to sound dumb, but I get so many catalogues and solicitations from places that sound hunter friendly then turn around and use the money against us. I just wanted to be sure.

Other states have a hunting theme plate available. I think it's WI that has a deer head on a plate. Maybe we'll get something like that in the future. Something that makes more of a statement.

Nailer,

Candace Miller gave an impressive pro-hunting speech at the recent SCI Detroit fund raiser. She also spoke about the wildlife plate and had applications for everyone on the dinner tables. Game animals need habitat too.

Ms Miller also said she is going to run for the Senate. I can tell you this, her speech was VERY pro hunting. She's got my vote.

If you are looking for organizations to put your money into look at SCI. They did quite a lot in Michigan with the moose program in the UP. In fact I think SCI paid for several moose to be moved to the UP from Canada a few years ago.

SCI is not just hunters that go over seas to hunt. When ever I have attended SCI functions its the deer hunting photos that go around more than anything else!

SCI Flint is conducting their wild game banquet on April 6th at the Flint IMA. If anyone is interested in attending they can email me for more information.

SCI also donated 3 guns and a bow to the DNR to be used as drawing prizes for hunters returning their deer survey.
