Puppy shots

I just got a beagle puppy and was wondering since I have a child in college and now have no money, if I can buy his shots like parvo, distemper, etc. and administer them myself instead of paying a vet? Thanks for any help.

You bet you can. The only preventative shot that you should need a vet for is the Rabies. Now you can buy the rabies shots online but it is illegal without a vets certificate in Michigan. I just usually take mine to the vet for the rabies and license. The rest I do on my own. Check out your local Tractor Supply. They carry all the shots you should need. I think the 7 way shot is around $7. Don't be intimidated by giving the shots yourself. My dogs don't even flinch when I do it. Follow the directions on the shot package and you should be fine. I've raised dogs for 20 some years now and have always given my pups their shots myself. I just want to make you aware of a couple of things. The main one is that the shots need to be administered just under the skin and not into the muscle.There is also a chance, although rare, of anaphylactic shock.This is an allergic reaction to the shots. I have never had it happen to me but just want to make you aware of it. You also need to give the pup a series of shots, not just one set, if they haven't had any shots yet. North Shade, Thanks for the offer but I'm going to go ahead and buy a 25 dose box. I have 2 other dogs and it's about time I protected them.

One other question though,

Do I have to have a kennel license to buy these shots?

No you do not need a kennel license to buy shots. A good place to buy from is Jeffers. PH 1 800 533 3377 The shots I buy cost about $3.50 each. You can get other brands cheaper.
