It's supposed to real cold this weekend, and I've never fished from a boat in the winter. Wont Ice build up on the boat hulls and make them sink(eventually)?

Look here, Stump
Now you're starting to get me worried.
Perhaps, SFK can explain, that the air near the waterline will be closer to 32 degrees. We usually take a baseball bat and pound on the inside of the boat until the ice falls off.
Only on rare occasions, does the bat go through the boat below the waterline.

It depends. What is the predicted wind speed? Will the sun be out?

I'm not sure magnet. I'm just remembering armistice day back in the 40's when a bunch of duck hunters got caught in the blizzard of the century. Alot of them tried to get back to shore and sunk their boats because of this! I'm not really worried about it, I was just wondering if it happens alot.

Stump, I didn't realize your age. You looked to be a much younger man in those pictures.
Since then, they've come a long way in ship building.
Just in case, I'll bring some medicine. Something to calm your nerves.

Stump, The only thing anyone has to worry about is makin Nick mad by speeding...Thats it! Once everyone gets through the "snail's crawl" speed trap , then we are GOOD TO GO!
Ice build-up, you guys are crackin me up. It only helps the boats go on the trailers easier ya know!:p Man stump, you are settin yerself up here bud! The water temp is around 35 degrees, last I heard. It won't freeze to the hull, It will freeze to your lines though:( .
The best way to test the hull to see if its to cold to safely fish, is to stick you tongue to it for 25 seconds. If it doesn't stick, then its time for a beer. If it does stick, its time for us to do a shot!:D I'll hold your feet while you do the test, tie them boots on real good!
All crappin aside, I have fished the Joe when the water temp was 30 degrees. It did stick to the hull then, but only 1/4 inch or so.The water was like a real thin jello, we just kept moving upsteam to find the warmer water( and fish).I might mention that the outside temp on that day was 5 degrees, got up to 20 by the warmest part of the day. We got 2steelies and 4 browns that day, I have it on video, and the guys who came all the way over from LSC to fish with me were amazed that we fished in that kinda weather in boats. I did notice the bilge pump didn't work as hathat day;)
So quit worrying! I wouldn't ask your capt Dave that same question either, he might just pee himself!:p
Awww heck, don't worry about it Stumpjumper, I've been out in my float tube when it was so cold i had to use an icepick to remove the ice as it formed.........................

Talked to captain Dave last night. He just picked up his boat from his outboard upgrade. Stumpjumper bring a walleye rod too. We should also plan to get some walleye minnows to Lindy rig them holes with. I can pick up a couple dozen, let me know. I'll bring some antifreeze for the pipes and a bucket of salt and my shovel for the ramp on Sunday. We will launch around 7:30 and fish hop some holes for steel first, and then hit the eddies for walter if steel are not biting. I'm fired up fella's.
