I lost my pair of polarized glasses in the lake this July. Now I need to replace them before steelhead season. The pair I had I liked, but in reading what some others have said, they didn't like them compared to what they were using. Does anybody have some suggestions for what glasses I should buy? I would like some Ocean Waves, but the cheapest I can find are $130. I am looking right now at the Action Optics polycarbonate lens, and some Bolle's. Both are about $60. Let me know what you think.

Hey, you can go to and sunglass speciality store and get another pair.. It all depends on how much you are willing to spend and what style you like.. I think that you can get a decent pair for about $50-$80. Good Luck..

You can spend up to $150.00 at places like Bass Pro or you can spend $4.00 at most any welding suply store for a pair of flash glasses. UV from the sun is the same from welding. Your choice.

Maui Jim, RayBan, Carrera
Amber lenses for low light, grey for sunlight.
The amber lenses will give you higher definition, but it will distort color. Grey won't

I got Action Optics at Cabelas for $75 that I like alot. I think the brown/copper color is the best all-around color.

I'm on my second pair of action optics and can't say enough about them. Great stuff! amber lenses(1st pair went for a swim)
I have the Action Optics in amber, as Shoeman said, they are for low light, and overcast days, they really cut through haze.
For sunny conditions I generally use a grey lens (Maui Jims).
The best all around fishing glasses I have ever had are Serengetti Stradas, but they are $$$$$ mine were about 300 bucks 5 years ago. The upside to them is that they seem to work well in any conditions.

$300! Wow! Do they come with surgical implants to attach them to your scull so you don' lose them!
I know that sounds crazy, but you can wear them from dawn to dusk, in any conditions and see into the water.

Doesn't sound crazy to me.
A friend of mine owned an Optical Shop
He introduced me to quality sunglasses. Yeah, you loose them, sure they break, but what a difference. You do get what you pay for. All quality optics are expensive. Why would someone spend several hundred on a pair of binoculars and skimp on sunglasses?
Which is used more?
You guys should just be happy you're not paying for prescription glasses. They really get you in the wallet for those!

I used to have a pair of Maui Jim's that I lost. I loved them, but they were around $300. I replaced them with some Ray-Ban's that were about $120. I can't really tell the difference. Lens color in both were Amber. I think the price you pay is largely dtermined by the frames. The Maui's I had were the"Flexon" type, made of titanium, I think. My Ray-Bans are metal framed also. If you can go with plastic frames, then you should be able to get some decent glasses for $60-80.00 dollars. I would definitely recommend going with glass lenses versus plastic.
My $.02, good luck.

The biggest difference in quality seems to come when you jump to the $70+ range. Prior to buying my action optics I had three pairs of $25 glasses. I thought they worked pretty well until I was out on the water with my buddy and he could see fish that I couldn't and we both had an amber lense. When I tried his on I was amazed at how much more I could see. After that I was sold!

Thanks everybody. I am going to try a brand called Mad Marlins I think. I have to get a little more info on them first. If that doesn't turn out like I plan, then it looks like the action optics.
