I've never seen or heard of one either. There are two black wolves by where I hunt
Cool pic
A buddy of mine shot one in the Romeo area this year. Extremely rare.

I saw four of them running two little button bucks past my stand this past october! they would post and drive the little ones back and forth. they did this for at least a half hour and the deer were so tired that their mouths were wide open and breathing heavily even while they stood. those rodents never got close enough for a shot with a bow for me to take them out though. had i had my shotgun i could have penlized them for tresspassing. never did see them again.

That sure would make one hell of a nice mount I know that.

Pretty rare but I've seen a couple myself. More black wolves than yotes.

Pretty rare. I've seen one, and I had a weapon in my hand when I saw it. I had a good weapon in my hand when I saw it too, a remington 22-250. We were hunting coyotes and the long and short of the story is upon seeing the black coyote I fumbled badly trying to get some shells into the gun, I dropped 4 of 5 shells into the snow before I finally got one into the tube........the coyote had taken off on a trot at this point and I proceeded to miss and then I loaded another shell into the gun and then missed.....I repeated this miss process 3 times and woke up the next day with a monster hangover!!!!!:dizzy:

A guy on another site bagged one this year...I dunno what state it was but not Michigan. He was gonna have it mounted.
Then, there is this place here in Michigan that we were gonna go to run that the person inviting us (and our dogs) had seen a black one but...things just didn't work out to get there to run them.
Maybe it will still be running around next year...

Someone posted a picture last year on the trapping forum I believe of a black coyote mount. Might find it if you search the trapping forum.

Thanks for the link :) That's an awesome mount. I have a red fox mounted verry similar to that. I have a regular color phased Yote being mounted right now. I opted for one where it will be lying next to a snow covered stump, should look pretty nice.

Never heard of such a thing until now. Wolves, yes... but never yotes. Anyone know what causes this?

I'm no biologist, but I think it's from the black hair:chillin:

Most of the ones you see are in southern states.
I wonder if they have been mousing in the coal mines.....
