looking to buy a new bow. it will be a hoyt. its a choice between a protech with a cast magnesium riser,or the trykon with billet aluminum riser. of course the shop is singing the praises of the more expensive bow. its a little faster about 10 fps they say its quieter. is it worth 200 extra.ones 500 other 700. my last bow is about 15 yrs old so its all new to me. any help or comments good or bad about these bows would be appreciated.

What's it used for?
What's your draw length?

The riser material is a very small part of the differences btw those two bows IMO. Completely different angles, lengths and feels to them.

YOU GOTTA AT LEAST TEST SHOOT A MATHEWS SWITCHBACK!!!!

When you do, I'd love to hear your feedback on all the bows you shot. I can't imagine what anyone could say negative about the Switchback, except the price.

I do want to hear anything negative anyone has to say who has shot the Switchback.

Went to an archery pro shot last week to shoot all the new bows. NO comparison to me, Switchback was in a league of it's own.

All I can say is shoot them both and then you will be able to decide. If you are planning on keeping it for 15 years whats 200 bucks. If you like the Trykon better I say go for it. Thats the one I would pick besides its only $13.33 more a year over 15 years.

Best of luck with your choice and let us know what you go with. Either way its a Hoyt and you'll be happy with it.

im pretty sure im going with the trykon but im going to check out bowtech just to see if it all that. far as mathews goes just cause they have alot of ads and people buy em dont make them good.in a side by side spec comparison swithchback has about same speed but less ftlb of energy bowtech is the same as the hoyt and are suppossed to be very smooth to shoot.

Yeah !! I wasnt aware that they made a protec w/ a cast risor. make sure you get the 60# Trykon. The 70# will kill you. 1st cycle is rough as heck!! they are fast though. We crono'd the regular Trykon and and '05 Illusion. Both at 28" draw, 60# w/ a 304 grain fat boy. shot both through crono 3 seperate times. They were both exactly the same. 276 fps. and at 70 lbs. the Trykon was at 314 fps and Illusion was at 313 fps.

Who here has shot the Trykon, Protec, and Switchback side by side?

I have shot the Trykon and SB side by side. I felt that the Switchback was by far smoother and an over all DREAM to shoot. The Trykon is probably a bit faster I guess. But whats a couple/few feet per second.

These are just my thoughts, what are yours for those who have compared these bows in performance?

I just purhased the allegiance at the Birch run hunt expo. Very smooth/quiet/fast bow. Will try poking a turkey with it here in a few weeks. ;)

Has anyone else here actually hunted with the Protec? I have. I used the Protec and did like it. I have nothing but good things to say about Hoyt. However, my hunting bow now is a Bowtech Pro40 and I have to admit that I'm pretty much sold on my Pro40. Then again, I loved my Oneida, and you hear mixed reviews on those too.
But back to the point, every individual has to shoot each bow and determine which they like best. The Protec is a super bow, the Switchback is a super bow and any of the new Bowtech's are super bows. For my tastes of a huge brace ht and long ATA, the Pro40 is similar to the Protec, but I find the Pro40 much easier to shoot. I don't know if it's the cam.5 vs the single cam, but the Pro40 is effortless. IMHO You could shoot it with your feet. :) :p

I agree !!! The only issue I see w/ pro40 if its a dually is constant timing issues. sweet shooting bow if you can keep it in time. Had a friend sell a blue one because of that. other than that it was a sweet shooter. From I'm told!!

I sold my constitution because I have been so happy with my pro 40. Its a dually, Its fast and timing issues are nearly non existant with the quality strings and cables I have on it. I can shoot it at 55 and get the speed of someone shooting 65. Very stable too.

I bought a Trycon last weekend. Before going to the store I tried to keep my thoughts neutral and keep an open mind, but have to admit I had thoughts of getting either a Trycon or a Vtec. I did, however, shoot about a dozen bows including Darton's, Bears, and PSE's, and I will even admit that the Switchback drew a lot smoother than the rest. They both shoot extremely fast and I didn't seem to notice much difference in noise or vibration. Even at that I thought it was priced a little bit too high and decided the Hoyt will be my weapon of choice this fall.

bigsablemike: How much is the Trykon in a store? I want to know for personal reasons, but you may want to try Van's in Whitmore Lake since you're in Belleville. They are the cheapest I've found.

I want to know the price because my SB got ripped off about a month and a half ago and now I'm looking for another. What? Not sure yet myself.

Trycons were running from $700 to $800 where I was at. I have seen them for $650, but the drive to Jackson would have countered my cost savings.
