Idea for Michigan yes/no?

WI - Boat-safety classes to become law
Measure will make courses mandatory

The days when any 16-year-olds, trained or not, could jump in powerboats, fire up the motors and cast their fate to the waves are coming to an end.

Under a bill headed for the desk of Gov. Jim Doyle, anyone who turns 16 this year or hereafter will be required to take and pass a state-sanctioned boating safety class before he or she can operate a powerboat on Wisconsin waters. A spokeswoman for the governor said Doyle will sign the bill into law.

I would like to see it mandatory for everyone, with a 10 year refresher course as well.

I would be willing to lay down cash in a bet if I sureveyed 50 people at a state boat launch on a holiday weekend, at least half couldnt answer 4 simple crossing scenario/right of way questions right. Thats all stuff that can be taught in a basic, 6 hour class.

We have it now for waverunners, and stats have shown across the country that mandatory licensing does work. The is alot of potential for idiots to hurt alot of OTHERS(not just themselves) when they dont know what they're doing.
