Does anyone know if it is possible to turn a pull start 40hp yam. into an electric start. Buying a new motor really isn't an option. If anyone has done this do you have any tips and or ideas where to get a conversion kit.

I am sure it is possible, depending on the model of the motor, get your serial number and contact a Yamaha dealer or Yamaha Customer Service and they will let you know right away what parts to buy if it available for upgrade

I am in the process of buying a boat, and it has a 60 horse yamaha. How are these motors? The guy that is selling the boat said it's awesome, and that it never loads up. I believe it is a 92 Yamaha.

I have a 97 40 hp, that I bought used 3 seasons ago. I have not had a single problem with the motor since I bought it. The motor pushes my 17'er with no problems summer or during duck season with 3 guys and decoys. Only problem is that its a pull start. Good luck with your purchase. Thanks for the response.

yea Yamaha makes a fine outboard. what year is your 40hp? model number? and I can do a little investigation for you.

Tonga, its a 1997, 40 mhlv. I did find on the net last night that you probably can convert but you would have to buy all the parts individually, and put it together, Yamaha doesn't make a conversion kit. The parts list I found had everything but it would be expensive to do. Thanks for all the replies guys.

All the guides I use in Florida use Yamaha's. They guys docked next to them use them. They outnumber Merc's 10 to 1 down there. Must be a Reason And they use them 12 months a yr.
